Install

Installing packages in Ubuntu on a new machine:

Add the following lines to /etc/apt/sources.list:

#Source for Virtualbox:
deb http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian jaunty non-free

#Source for Chromium:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/chromium-daily/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/chromium-daily/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

Add the GPG keys:

Chromium: sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 0xfbef0d696de1c72ba5a835fe5a9bf3bb4e5e17b5

Virtualboxwget -q http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian/sun_vbox.asc -O- | sudo apt-key add -

Skype: sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/$(lsb_release -cs).list \
–output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list &&
sudo apt-get -q update &&
sudo apt-get –yes -q –allow-unauthenticated install medibuntu-keyring &&
sudo apt-get -q update

Update Aptitude:

sudo apt-get update

Essential: vim-full build-essential manpages-dev gparted manpages-posix-dev

Engineering Software: scilab octave3.0 python-matplotlib python-profiler python python-scipy python-numpy python-sympy python-doc mayavi2 maxima

Browsers: opera chromium-browser
